Ingleborough2011 Challenge

As many of you will know, we are proposing to hold a Challenge Weekend in summer 2011 which will be spent in North Yorkshire around the 'Three Peaks'. Members would have the option of supervised runs/walks over the 26 mile route.  At this stage we are looking to collect information on possible numbers and the preferred accommodation (Bunkhouse, B&B, Camping etc) and also the preferred date (29/30/31 July 2011 or 19/20/21 August 2011). Please could interested members see Martyn by the end of September 2010.

Happy Birthday

2011 sees the 20th Anniversay of Lincoln and District Runners! To celebrate, the club will be holding a hog roast and ceildh at Washingborough on 29th January 2011. Numbers and £5 deposits to Martyn by 1st December 2010 please.

Emma Skegness XCClub Kit

Club vests are available from Martyn on training nights - the newly designed vests cost £20. Remember a vest is needed if you are planning to take part in the County Cross Country Races which begin at the end of October!

A number of members have also suggested looking into purchasing club hoodies for members to wear on training nights and when travelling to events. Anyone interested, or with any other ideas, please see Paul/Pippa/Emma.

Training Nights

As the dark nights approach please remember to take sensible precautions during training. Wear appropriate clothing for the conditions and take additional care in the dark around traffic.

Note that this winter a number of Tuesday night runs are taking place away from NK Sports Centre to vary things up - keep an eye on the training schedule.

In addition, during the winter schedule there will be a number of head torch runs - which will take place off road, but are unlikely to be over very rough terrain. If you fancy a go but don't own a head torch, please ask on a club night - there are several members with a spare one! Where members do not want to take part in the head torch run, a road run under street lights as normal will be lead from the same locations.

Ultra Joggler!

Club member Tim Butler not only took in the recent Grimsthorpe 70 mile race, but also juggled his way around the course!

This new event run by Fat Feet Running was held over seven laps of 10 miles at Grimsthorpe Castle, in the south of the county. Some 30 runners completed the gruelling event, with Tim coming home in 20 hours 28 minutes. The race began in the morning of Friday 23rd July, with most participants running through the night and finishing the following morning.

Tim

Tim has completed several Half Marathons and shorter races while 'Joggling', as well as the 26 mile Spires and Steeples Challenge and the club's recent 18 mile Bardney Express. Tim, who raises funds for the RSPCA through his efforts, has an ultimate goal of completing 100 miles of Joggling in 24 hours - which he believes would be a world record.

After entertaining members at the recentclub barbeque by juggling clubs, knifes and fire (!), Tim was back in racing action at the Newark Half Marathon. Ditching his usual soft juggling balls for heavy clubs proved tough on a hot day, with Tim coming home in a time of 2 hours 25 minutes.

Race Reviews

Members have been busy in a variety races over the past month:

July opened with Marcus Saunders taking part in the Skiddaw Fell Race, which saw the course shotened due to awful weather conditions.

A week later, in more pleasant conditions, Neil Chapman took first place in the Spilsby Six, while on the same day Jon Hobbs finished in seventh position in the Notfast 10k at Newark-on-Trent.

Welcome to Lincoln and District Runners

Lincoln and District Runners were formed in 1991 and are a friendly and enthusiastic running club, which welcomes runners of all abilities. We meet twice a week - on Tuesday evenings usually at North Kesteven Leisure Centre, North Hykeham and on Thursday nights at a range of locations in and around the city of Lincoln.

We generally run in two groups during the traning sessions with runners of all abilities, but keeping the ethos 'no one is left behind'.

We organise a number of races locally, as well as attending and supporting other local events including the Lincolnshire Cross Country League on an annual basis.

In addition we have a number of keen fell runners who regularly participate in events in the Lake District as well as closer to home in Yorkshire/Derbyshire.

Alongside the runners, we operate a walking section which has grown in size over the last couple of years.

We have a thriving social calendar - the past year has seen numerous nights out as well as a trip to a brewery, club BBQ, ghost walk and bowling.

For more details on joining us, see http://www.lincolndistrictrunners.co.uk/membership-info
